Teakettle Enterprises Ltd. was incorporated
in Belize on July 10, 1984. the corporate goal was to establish a base
for the production of cultivated seed that was becoming difficult to obtain
from the wild. Since that time, our efforts there have resulted in the
development of a one of a kind farm that is oriented toward the cultivation
of plants for seed production. Initially supplying Chamaedorea seifrizii
seed to only one customer, we have now become an international supplier
of over 34 varieties of cultivated palm seed to growers all over the world.
We are still expanding to try and keep up with market demands.
We recognized these trends in 1984 and set out
to establish a seed plantation in Central America to safeguard our supply
of these seeds. We carefully harvested seed for our stock plants from the
best of mother nature to establish our production plots. Through natural
selection we are constantly involved in a program of rotation and replacement
of our stock plants. Over the years, this program of highly selective transplanting
and seed harvesting has resulted in an inventory of stock plants that represent
the best that mother nature has to offer. These plants have been carefully
nurtured and have thrived in this cultivated farm environment. This gives
us an unprecedented amount of control over the quality and availability
of our seed. The plants grown from our seed are the direct descendants
of these true varieties.
Although motivated by profits, the company has
received noteworthy recognition for their efforts to conserve rare and
endangered palms through cultivation and research. Our collection of cultivated
stock plants represents a gene bank that can be used for research, development,
and for future reintroduction of these plants into the wild.
Teakettle Enterprises Ltd. takes a great
deal of pride in our quality products, but as a wholesale seed producer,
we are also working hard to stay ahead in the race for technology. We see
the various aspects of marketing and technology mingling more and more
as we get ready to enter the 21st century. It has become readily evident
that the Internet, E-mail, the WWW and online information sources will
soon develop into valuable tools that can help us become better growers.
